Tag Reader Not Recognized - Updating the Driver - Windows 7, 8, 10 or Vista

Note: The Tag Reader was last sold in 2013 and is no longer supported. The LeapFrog Connect software for this product is offered as-is. 

 

Windows 7, 8, 10 or Vista

 

With the Tag Reader turned off, plug the Tag Reader in to a USB port on the back of your computer. Does it automatically power on? If no, the device is defective; please contact customer support.

 

If the device is powered on, click the Windows Start button.

 

In the search box that comes up, type devmgmt.msc. The Device Manager will open.

 

Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus controllers and expand that drop down. If the computer is correctly recognizing the Tag Reader, you will see something like this:

 

 

If instead, you see an exclamation point next to the Tag Reader, it may mean a driver is missing. The exclamation point would look something like this:

 

 

 

If you see the exclamation point, right click and select properties.

 

On the Driver tab, click Update Driver

 

On the next screen, select "Browse my Computer" for driver software

 

In the Search for hardware in this location box, type or paste the following address:

 

 

On 32 bit computers  -  C:\Program Files\LeapFrog\LeapFrog Connect\TagUSBDrivers\Vista

On 64 bit computers -  C:\Program Files (x86)\LeapFrog\LeapFrog Connect\TagUSBDrivers\Vista

 

And click "Next"

 

The wizard should install the driver
