Please Note: This answer applies to the 2022 version of “My Pal Scout or Violet Smarty Paws” that has Star and Music symbols on the ears and comes with an audio cable in the battery compartment.

Older versions include 2014 My Pal Scout or Violet (LeapFrog logo on ear and audio cable in the battery compartment) and  2009 My Pal Scout and Violet (USB cord).

My Pal Scout/Violet Smarty Paws doesn’t say “Yay I’m connected” on Step 3.

 

1) Make sure My Pal Smarty Paws is on:

Press the Power Paw shown below…

**If My Pal says, “Hi!” press the “Try Again” button on the Step 3 Help screen or restart the process at leapfrog.com/smartypaws

**If My Pal says, “Goodbye!” press the Power Paw again, then press the “Try Again” button on the Step 3 Help screen or restart the process at leapfrog.com/smartypaws

**If My Pal doesn’t say anything, check to make sure the power switch is in the ON position. If My Pal still doesn’t turn on, try installing new batteries.

**If the above instructions don’t work, please try the following:

2) Make sure the headphone or media volume on your phone or computer has been turned all the way up to maximum. Note that many devices have multiple volume settings: headphones, speakers, media and/or ringer.

On the latest iOS version, the headphone volume bar looks like this:

On the latest Android version, the media volume looks like this:

3) If you are using a Lightning or USB-C adapter, please note that some adapters may not be compatible with My Pal Smarty Paws. (My Pals has been tested with the “Apple Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter” and “Google USB-C to 3.5mm Adapter.”) You can also try connecting the My Pal audio cable to the headphone port on a computer or laptop.
